The Jackson Van Ballegooyen Trio is a Perth-based jazz piano trio featuring Jackson Van Ballegooyen on piano, Alistair Peel on double bass, and Sam Newman on drums. Drawing on the traditions of jazz while embracing a fresh, contemporary sound, the trio explores melodic improvisation, dynamic rhythmic interaction. Their music moves effortlessly between intimate, lyrical moments and energetic, swinging performances inspired by the likes of Oscar Peterson, Mulgrew Miller and Herbie Hancock.

Mariah Hlatywayo is a vocalist and drummer from Perth, Western Australia. She is joined by her brother Joshua on seven-string guitar, with the pair sharing vocals and close harmonies, drawing inspiration from artists such as The Andrews Sisters, Joao Gilberto and Natalie Cole. As a songwriter, Mariah also draws from her Sri Lankan heritage, life experiences and Christian faith to write music with the hopes of uplifting and encouraging others.

Ricki Malet leads on trumpet with a tone that’s equal parts sweet and smoky, tracing the melodies of the New Orleans and Dixieland songbook with genuine soul. Alongside him, Alistair Peel holds it all together on bass, laying down the walking lines and steady pulse that let the music breathe.
